Offline & PWA
Cool Route’s phone app is a PWA. After you install it and open your day’s jobs while online, you can keep working in a basement or a dead zone — with limits.
Watch the connectivity indicator in the app header. Offline is not a second product; it is a queue that drains when you are back on a network.
Works offline (queued, then syncs)
Section titled “Works offline (queued, then syncs)”These are designed to save on the device and upload later:
- Job status changes (scheduled / in progress / completed), including the parts-required complete check
- Job notes (create, edit, delete)
- Photos (held until upload)
- Estimates (create/edit drafts)
- Inventory movements (consume, return, some transfers) in Stock / job-parts modes
Sync order prefers stock movements before a queued “job complete,” so a part you picked still exists when complete is applied. TODO: if we change that order, update this sentence.
Needs a network
Section titled “Needs a network”Do not expect these without signal:
- Maps and turn-by-turn directions
- Address / place lookup (Google geocode and autocomplete)
- Billing, Stripe Checkout, and the customer portal
- Login, email confirmation, password reset, and invite accept
- First-time load of a page you have never opened on this device
- Seeing someone else’s just-saved work (it is on their phone until they sync)
If you hard-navigate to a page the app cannot cache, you may see a simple offline fallback page. Go back to Today or reopen a job you already visited.
What to do before you lose signal
Section titled “What to do before you lose signal”- Log in and open Today, Schedule, and each job on the morning route.
- Open Stock if you will pick parts.
- Take Maps directions while you still have data, or write the address down.
When you regain signal
Section titled “When you regain signal”Leave the app open for a moment. Queues flush automatically. Wait for pending counts to clear before you tell the office “it’s in there.”
If an item is marked conflict, stop retrying and call the shop. Inventory conflicts are reconciled from office Alerts, not by hammering the same pick.
Not covered here
Section titled “Not covered here”Fixing a specific PWA install or cache bug is engineering work, not a user workaround. If install or offline is broken on a device after an update, note the phone OS and browser and contact the person who runs Cool Route for your shop.
